Dr. Munavvar Izhar is a Physician and Nephrologist in addition to being a thinker, philosopher and a life coach. Munavvar Izhar says that in a society that has you counting money, pounds, calories and steps, be a rebel and count blessings instead. If you do that and stick with it, you will notice your psyche change and you will get more happiness than anguish. Practicing Gratitude and Forgiveness are other ways to get happiness says Munavvar Izhar, MD.

According to Munavvar Izhar, MD every physician and person has 24 hours in a day. Of these 24 hours people usually sleep for 6 to 8 hours, work for 8 to 10 hours and usually travel back-and-forth from work for 1 to 2 hours. This adds up to a good 16 to 20 hours in a day and one is left with only 4 to 6 hours in a day to take care of cooking, cleaning, eating, doing chores at home, running errands, paying bills, looking after children and driving them back and forth from and to activities and classes, supervising their homework etc., etc., etc.… where is the time to do physical activity? or exercise? Or meditation? Where is the time to connect with your spouse or children meaningfully? Dr. Munavvar Izhar says that these are the dilemmas physicians face in their life.

Izhar mentions that there are three Cs of life – CHOICES, CHANCES and CHANGES. Dr. Munavvar Izhar emphasizes that “You must make a choice to take a chance, and bring on a change or your life will never change”. According to him if your work consumes you and has long hours, maybe you need to consider a change of job or reduced hours at the job. Remember that your job will forget you that you ever worked there, your colleagues and workplace will forget that you worked there or may vaguely remember that you worked there but your child would never forget that you were never there!! Investment in your children and their upbringing is the best investment in life. It also has the best returns in life. Most people realize this but late in life.

Munavvar Izhar says that the same holds true with your travel, if you are taking a long time for travel maybe you need to consider options to reduce that time. Strategize the work at home and try to divide and conquer by delegating tasks and merely supervising them rather than doing them yourself. The CHOICES and CHANGES you make have a profound effect on the outcomes in your life. Izhar, MD mentions that the changes don’t have to be all sudden and drastic, the key is to have right small changes being done daily on a constant basis in life keeping the priorities straight. Problem happens when priorities are forgotten, and people start running after money, position or fame. That’s when personal life, spouse, children, happiness get shortchanged which have profound a long-term impact.

To have more out of your day you need to revisit your Choices, utilize your time more effectively, maybe multitask, and change your MINDSET too. Life is an echo – what you send comes back, what you sow you reap, what you give is what you get, what you see in others is what exists in you. Hence, it is very important for a person’s mind to think good, have good and positive thoughts, be optimistic, see more positive than negative. This will change the psyche to approach things in a way that is more calming, amenable and will give satisfaction and happiness. It also gives more control and power to the individual. Once a person feels calm, grounded and more in control, he starts to enjoy doing things with a purpose which has a compounding effect on satisfaction and happiness.

Izhar says that Me time, Exercise, Meditation, Relaxation, Bonding with spouse and children, Hugging all have effects on our limbic system and brain. Hormones like Dopamine, Serotonin and Oxytocin are released. These cause a person’s happiness. Munavvar Izhar asks that would you have these hormones and happiness on a daily basis or twice/thrice a week? Obviously daily! Hence, one should have the Me time, Exercise, Meditation, Relaxation, Bonding with spouse and children, Hugging etc. on a daily basis. One cannot do these things in a rushed manner or on the fly. Hence, the importance of time and productivity comes in. Remember, everybody has 24 hours, but some are more effective and happier than the others. So, it is recommended doing that by making changes in the choices which are under our control.
